Decomposing Recidivism Variance into Probation and Parole Officers and their Clients

Study paper no. 92
working paper - publication by Lars Højsgaard Andersen

Being allocated one or another probation or parole officer makes little difference to whether or not a convicted person decides to continue with a criminal career. The future life course of the convicted criminal depends mostly upon the person himself. Nearly 22,000 cases allocated among more than 400 probation or parole officers during the period 2002–2009 were analysed in the study.
