Drinking Alone?

The Effect of Alcohol Treatment Programs for Drunk Drivers on Relationship Stability
working paper - publication by Signe Hald Andersen

People convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol who choose an alternative way of serving their sentences than the normal term in prison have a greater chance of preserving their marriage or cohabitation relationships. In a group of drunk drivers who participated in alcohol treatment programs, the percentage maintaining a stable relationship increased from 33 to 40 percent. The new analysis provides insight into why this should be so.
