What are the characteristics of jobs in entrepreneurial firms in comparison with jobs in more established companies? Even though this question has been investigated by many researchers before us, we are able to present new evidence, since we are able to identify as entrepreneurs firms which are truly new start-ups. Most studies to date have identified entrepreneurs as either small firms or newly-registered firms. We regard genuinely new firms as those which are newly registered and which are not simply the result of the restructuring or reorganisation of existing firms or the introduction of new activities by existing firms that result formally in the opening of new companies.
